How to make a restaurant menu QR code for free

Start with a menu that lives online. That can be a menu page on your own website, a menu built in your ordering or POS platform, or a PDF saved to Google Drive or Dropbox with link sharing switched on. Copy that address, paste it into the menu field above and the code appears instantly. There is no account to create, no trial that runs out and no monthly menu subscription.

Next, make it look like it belongs on your tables. Pick your brand colors or a gradient, upload your logo for the center, choose one of the dot styles and add a frame with a call to action such as Scan for menu, Order here or See today’s specials. Before you print, use the built-in scan test to confirm the finished design still reads cleanly.

Print sizes and placement that guests actually scan

A good rule of thumb is to make the code about one tenth of the distance it will be scanned from. On a table tent or a sticker read from arm’s length, around 3 to 4 cm (roughly 1.5 inches) square is comfortable. A window poster that people read from the sidewalk needs a much larger code, so download the SVG or a 3000px PNG and let your printer scale it without blur.

For dine-in tables, the A4 sticker sheet places 12 identical codes on one page, ready for label paper or for cutting by hand. Put the code where a seated guest naturally looks: on the table tent, the napkin holder or the corner of the table, not underneath condiments. Keep dark codes on light backgrounds, avoid glossy laminate that throws glare under ceiling lights, and add a second code to takeaway bags and the front door so guests can reorder or browse before they walk in.

Update your menu without reprinting the QR code

This is a static QR code: the menu address is stored inside the pattern itself, so it never expires and keeps working even if this website disappears. The trick for changing prices or dishes is to keep the address the same and change what sits behind it. Edit your menu web page, or replace the PDF in Google Drive using Manage versions so the share link stays identical, and every printed code shows the new menu immediately.

Because the code is generated in your browser, nothing about your restaurant is stored on our servers, and there is no scan tracking or analytics. If you need visit counts, add UTM parameters to your menu link and read them in your own website analytics.

Frequently asked questions

Can one menu QR code work for breakfast, lunch and dinner?

Yes. Point the code at a single menu page that links to each service, or swap the PDF behind the same link as the day changes. The printed code stays the same.

Will guests need to download an app to see the menu?

No. The built-in camera on modern iPhones and Android phones reads the code and opens your menu in the browser.

Can I add an ordering or payment link instead of a menu?

Yes. Any web address works, so you can link to your online ordering page or a table-specific ordering URL from your POS provider.

What should I write in the frame?

Short, action-led text works best, such as Scan for menu, Order from your table or View allergens. The frame text can be in any language.

Can I make a different code for each table?

Yes. If your ordering system gives each table its own link, paste them one per line into the bulk generator and download all codes as a ZIP or an A4 PDF with each link printed underneath.
